Dr. Gina Ogilvie speaks on leaps in cervical cancer treatment

British Columbia is aiming to eliminate cervical cancer in the province with the launch of Canada’s first at home screening program. Dr. Gina Ogilvie, a senior scientist in the fields of reproductive health and sexually transmitted infections says this provincial program will help B.C. eradicate the disease in 10 years. 

Dr. Gina Ogilvie, a global expert in HPV control at the University of British Columbia said that HPV based screening is more effective at identifying those with pre-cancerous lesions.” (CBC) People in B.C. will have improved access to cervical cancer screening as this new program is administered provincewide.

Dr. Gina Ogilvie remarks that “today, we are taking the next major leap forward with the goal of not only eliminating cervical cancer, but ultimately eliminating altogether.” (CBC)
