Waugh, Shay
Biography:
Dr. Shay Alexandria Waugh completed her PhD research at the University of Victoria with Dr. Caroline Cameron where she investigated how Treponema pallidum (the causative agent of syphilis) crosses the blood-brain barrier. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia studying Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV-2) in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Tokuyama. Her research aims understand how HSV-2 infects the vaginal epithelium, and to develop novel therapeutics to reduce HSV-2 symptoms.
