Peter Leung
Biography:
Dr. Peter Leung is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (Academy of Science), Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and Foreign Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. He is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Leung has received numerous awards and honours, including MRC Scholar and MRC Scientist Awards from the Medical Research Council of Canada, Distinguished Scholar Award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, Senor Scientist Award from the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, UBC Senior Killam Research Prize, Western University Alumni of Distinction Award, and CFAS Award of Excellence in Reproductive Medicine. He has served as President of Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, Chair of Canadian Investigators in Reproduction, Advisory Board of CIHR Institute of Gender and Health, Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Human Development Child and Youth Health, Director of Society for the Study of Reproduction, Director of Ovarian Workshops USA, Temporary Advisor to the World Health Organization. Dr. Leung’s research program is in Hormonal Determinants of Women’s Reproductive Health and Disease, especially ovarian and placental cell functions. He was the first to clone and characterize the gene encoding the human gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor, which is a key regulator of the reproductive system.
