Biography:

Kathleen (Kaye) A. Hare is an Associate Professor at University Canada West, where her research applies feminist perspectives to sexual health and sexualities education, sexual information seeking and communication, and bodies and embodiment more broadly. She studies how sexuality and sexual health are taught, learned, and communicated across different settings, with particular attention to how knowledge circulates through formal education, digital environments, and communities. Her scholarship spans work on pornography, sexual health educators, and the complexities of sex education, as well as current research on women’s sexual and reproductive health information seeking and sharing in digital spaces. She is especially interested in how power, gender, and voice shape sexual health knowledge and the implications this has for education, access to care, and community support.

Dr. Hare often draws on arts-based methodologies to investigate questions of sexuality and health, using creative and participatory practices to generate new insights and to support critical, feminist, and decolonial approaches to sexual health education and knowledge exchange. Her work has been supported by multiple research grants and shared through national and international conferences, where she contributes to conversations on feminist scholarship, pedagogy, and innovation.

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Hare serves as President of the Board of Directors for Options for Sexual Health, British Columbia’s (and Canada’s!) largest non-profit provider of sexual and reproductive health services. In this capacity, she provides leadership in governance and strategy and supports advocacy for accessible, evidence-based care. She also works to strengthen connections between academic research and community practice, ensuring that sexual and reproductive health services remain responsive to the needs of British Columbians.
