Closson, Kalysha

Biography:

Miss. Kalysha Closson is a PhD candidate, a Vanier Canadian Scholar, and a Public Scholar at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) in Vancouver, Canada. She is interested in conducting community-based and youth-centered research focused on understanding measures of gender equity among young people disproportionately affected by the intersecting epidemics of violence against women and HIV. Kalysha has  worked in the field of global HIV research for the past 6 years, and has published several studies focused on barriers to treatment and prevention strategies for individuals marginalized by socio-structural inequities in Canada, South Africa and other global settings. Alongside this work, Kalysha is committed to ensuring that young affected populations are meaningfully engaged at every step of the research project, and  supports various  youth-led knowledge translation and research dissemination projects.
