Huang, Jingting Elaine
Biography:
After graduating from the University of Toronto in 2024 with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree, I involved actively in cell culture, mouse studies, and clinical trials related to childhood diabetes and maternal health during pregnancy at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute in Dr. Angela Devlin’s lab. Funded by NSERC USRA-funded, I began as a summer student in May 2024, assisting a senior graduate student with her project investigating the impact of folate on pancreatic islet development and diabetes-related risk factors. In February 2025, I transitioned into the role of clinical research assistant, where I performed blood processing for a prospective clinical study comparing key serum biomarkers and genomes related to diabetes among children and youth with diabetes.
Through these roles, I have gained proficiency in a wide range of research techniques, including animal husbandry, cardiac puncture and perfusion, Western blotting, PCR genotyping, immunostaining histology, DNA extraction, PBMC isolation, ELISA, and more. Starting in September 2025, I will begin my Master’s studies in Dr. Devlin’s lab, focusing on investigating the effects of folic acid levels on pancreatic function and insulin secretion in a mouse model.
