Biography:

 

Erin Tang is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Heart Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital, where she provides clinical leadership for the Transcatheter Heart Valve and Acute Coronary Syndrome programs. With more than 20 years of experience in cardiac surgery and cardiology nursing, she is committed to advancing equitable, person-centered care and improving cardiovascular health outcomes for diverse populations. Erin’s professional interests include health equity, patient education, quality improvement, knowledge translation, and health-system transformation. She has published in peer-reviewed journals on quality improvement and evidence implementation in person-centered cardiovascular care. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at UBC, with research focused on the experiences and healthcare needs of racialized women living with cardiovascular disease.

Erin began her career as a cardiothoracic surgery nurse at the University of Washington Medical Center. She later returned to Canada to complete critical care nursing training and worked in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital. Driven by ongoing curiosity and passion in cardiac care, Erin transitioned to the cardiac outpatient and community-based services at Vancouver Coastal Health. She developed expertise in patient education and self-management support for individuals living with heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Her experiences caring for diverse patient populations inspired her master’s research at UBC, which examined disparities in care among patients with limited English proficiency following cardiac surgery.

In addition to her clinical and research roles, Erin serves as an Adjunct Professor in the UBC School of Nursing. She is also Co-Director of the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) Cardiovascular Nurse and Technologist Symposium and the Canadian TAVI Nursing Symposium. Through her leadership, research, and advocacy, Erin seeks to advance equitable and person-centered care for women and other underserved populations affected by cardiovascular disease.
