McCabe, Courtney
Biography:
Courtney McCabe is a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia in Cheryl Wellington’s lab, where her research focuses on the neurological effects of intimate partner violence (IPV) on the brain. Her work sits at a critical intersection of neuroscience, trauma, and women’s health — areas that have historically lacked both attention and representation in clinical research.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Chemistry from Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she developed a strong foundation in the biological sciences that now informs her graduate research.
Driven by a commitment to equity in healthcare, Courtney is passionate about improving diagnostic capabilities and expanding therapeutic options for survivors of IPV — particularly for women who remain underrepresented in the field of traumatic brain injury (TBI) research. She believes that closing this gap is essential not only for advancing science but for meaningfully improving outcomes for those most affected.
Through her membership with the Women’s Health Research Institute, she looks forward to connecting with a community of researchers and advocates who share her dedication to centering women’s experiences in health research.
