McPhee, Carlie
Biography:
Carlie McPhee is an incoming PhD trainee whose work focuses on youth sexual health, digital health education, and equitable access to sexual health information and services for young people and gender-diverse communities. Her research and knowledge translation work draws on principles of comprehensive sexual health education, feminist and anti-oppressive practice, and community-engaged research.
Carlie has extensive experience working at the intersection of sexual health education, public health communication, and applied research. She has contributed to projects exploring youth experiences of healthcare access, online sexual health information, and the social and cultural factors that shape young people’s health decision-making. Her work is particularly interested in how digital environments—including social media and AI-based tools—shape sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and help-seeking behaviours.
Alongside her research activities, Carlie develops educational resources and training materials for schools, educators, and community organizations across Canada. She is also the creator of S.U.E. (Sexual health Understanding and Education), a research-informed sexual health chatbot designed to provide accessible, evidence-based sexual health information grounded in comprehensive sexual health education principles.
Through her doctoral training, Carlie hopes to further develop innovative and community-responsive approaches to sexual health promotion that improve access to accurate, inclusive, and youth-friendly health information. Her long-term goal is to bridge research, education, and digital knowledge translation to support better health outcomes for youth, women, and gender-diverse populations.
