Better Aging in BC:
Mapping Menopause Research Priorities

What is Mapping Menopause?
Mapping Menopause is a project that brings together people who research, provide, and receive menopause care, across British Columbia. The project includes:
- healthcare providers from nursing, medicine, and psychology- with plans to (hopefully) bring on a pelvic floor physiotherapist and pharmacist as well
- researchers from basic, health, and social sciences
- people who have diverse experiences of menopause
Members will form three groups: 1) core team, 2) Clinician and Research Steering Committee, and 3) Public Task Force.
Collectively, they will inform engagement strategies that garner additional multidisciplinary feedback, interpret data from the engagement activities, and reach consensus to produce a “Research Agenda for Menopause and Midlife Women’s Health.” – a complete list of research ideas to support healthy aging. The Agenda will be hosted by The Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), in collaboration with BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (BCWH). This partnership enables the new BCWH Complex Menopause Clinic to operate as part of a learning health system where a culture of evidence-based care is incentivized through continuous learning and improvement.
Mapping Menopause co-led by Dr. Lori Brotto (Executive Director, WHRI) and Dr. Stephanie Rhone (Senior Medical Director, BCWH) and funded by a Michael Smith Health Research BC Convening and Collaborating Grant.
