Two WHRI researchers have been recognized as part of the Royal Society of Canada’s (RSC) 2026 class of Fellows and College Members, which honours outstanding scholars, researchers, artists and emerging intellectual leaders from across Canada. The 2026 class includes 105 new Fellows and 54 new College Members.
Dr. Carolyn J. Brown has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. A pioneering geneticist and professor in UBC’s Department of Medical Genetics, Dr. Brown’s research has transformed our understanding of X-chromosome inactivation and gene regulation. Her work has contributed to advances in epigenetics, RNA-based silencing and our understanding of the biology of sex differences.
Dr. Mary De Vera has been named a member of the RSC College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. An associate professor in UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Canada Research Chair in Health Outcomes and Treatment Adherence, Dr. De Vera’s research integrates population-level evidence with patient perspectives to improve chronic disease management. Her work focuses on treatment adherence and survivorship, particularly in arthritis and cancer, with the goal of advancing patient-centred care and health equity.
