Over the summer, the Women’s Health Research Institute was honoured to welcome guests from the Provincial Health Services Authority to tour our offices and lab spaces on the BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital campus.
On July 15, we hosted Dr. Federica Di Palma, chief health genomics officer and vice president, research, lab services and BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), and Greg Martyn, chief administrative officer, research and academic services, (PHSA).
Dr. DiPalma and Mr. Martyn’s visit provided an opportunity for research leaders in PHSA to see firsthand the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of research being conducted at BC Women’s Hospital, and how WHRI researchers and studies are embedded within clinical environments, emphasizing the core driver of our research: improving patient care and outcomes. The tour concluded with lunch at the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology offices in the Shaughnessy Building.
More recently, on August 12, we welcomed PHSA’s current president and CEO, Paul Mochrie, for another tour, this one built on the theme of “From Cell to Society Across Life Stages.”
Researchers and staff from WHRI provided an overview of the institute’s facilities and operations before leading Mr. Mochrie through research and patient care areas in the hospital, including the Skidmore Goodman Perinatal Research Imaging and Evaluation (PRIME) Centre and wet lab, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and perinatal care areas, and the Global Control of HPV-Related Disease and Cancer research offices.
The CEO’s tour concluded with lunch and a discussion about the complex menopause program and obstetrics and gynecology research underway at the hospital, as well as how PHSA’s executive leadership can support WHRI in its mission to improve health outcomes for women, newborns and gender-diverse people through research.
