Nichole Fairbrother
Biography:
Dr. Nichole Fairbrother is a registered psychologist, clinical associate professor in the UBC Department of Family Practice, and the head of the UBC Perinatal Anxiety Research Lab (PARLab). She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of British Columbia, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in women’s reproductive health through the Child and Family Research Institute and the UBC Department of Health Care and Epidemiology. Via BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, Dr. Fairbrother is a member of the Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI). She provides graduate student supervision and some teaching via the UBC Women+ and Children’s Health Sciences (WACH) program. Her research is in the area of perinatal anxiety disorders and related disorders with a focus on thoughts of infant-relate harm and their relationship with mental health and infant safety. Her current research projects include a large-scale study of screening tools for perinatal anxiety and related disorders, data analysis and manuscript preparation for a large-scale study of postpartum obsessive compulsive disorder (ppOCD) and harsh parenting. She is currently in the planning stages for a study of parents’ experiences of disclosures of postpartum harm thoughts and a study to assess the effectiveness of an intervention to educate perinatal care providers about postpartum harm thoughts.
