Biography:

Juliana Vanessa Rincón López is a physician and doctoral candidate in the PhD in Population and Public Health program at the University of British Columbia, under the supervision of Dr. Gina Ogilvie and Dr. Michael Law. Originally from Colombia, she completed her medical degree and pursued clinical and research experience in obstetrics, gynecology, and clinical research before transitioning to population health research in Canada.

Her doctoral research focuses on the long-term effectiveness of HPV-based cervical cancer screening, leveraging 20-year follow-up data from the HPV FOCAL randomized controlled trial in British Columbia. Her work aims to generate evidence on optimal screening intervals, the durability of HPV-negative results, and downstream clinical outcomes such as colposcopy utilization — with the goal of informing equitable, evidence-based cervical cancer prevention policies in Canada and beyond.
Juliana has experience in epidemiological methods, health data analysis, and clinical research, and is passionate about reducing disparities in women’s health outcomes, particularly among underserved populations including recent immigrants and lower-income women.
