Prabaharan, Elakkiya
Biography:
Elakkiya is a Master’s student supervised by Dr. Alexander G. Beristain at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying human placental development during early pregnancy. Using stem cell models of placentation alongside advanced gene-editing techniques, she aims to investigate the role of SOX15 in the development of extravillous trophoblasts, a highly invasive and migratory placental cell type essential for establishing circulation at the maternal–fetal interface.
