Chen, Yiwei
Biography:
Yiwei Chen is an MSc student in Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia. With an undergraduate background in sociology and computational social science, they bring an interdisciplinary perspective to quantitative health research, combining training in epidemiological methods, health administrative data analysis, and mixed methods approaches, including qualitative thematic analysis and community-based participatory research.Their graduate work has focused on population-based epidemiological research using linked health administrative data, with experience spanning data governance, research ethics, quantitative analysis in R, and knowledge translation across multi-site research projects.Yiwei is a member of Dr. Laura Schummers’ research team, where their research interests center on how policy and practice changes shape reproductive health outcomes at the population level. They are particularly interested in quasi-experimental methods for health policy evaluations using linked administrative data to generate evidence that informs Canadian health policy.Outside of research, Yiwei enjoys Vancouver’s film and performing arts scene and can often be found at independent cinemas and theatres around the city.
