Ballesteros, Andrea
Biography:
Andrea Ballesteros is a student with a growing commitment to advancing women’s health through research. Her academic interests are shaped by a desire to make women’s healthcare more accessible, evidence-based, and respectful of patients’ dignity. Early exposure to obstetric procedures through clinical shadowing in both operating and examination rooms sparked her curiosity about how medical practice evolves with research and highlighted the importance of continually updating clinical knowledge. These experiences also led her to reflect on unanswered questions surrounding the relationship between mental health and the menstrual cycle.
Motivated by these questions, Andrea became interested in translational neuroscience, with the goal of bridging laboratory research and clinical practice. She hopes to contribute to research that not only advances scientific understanding but also informs more compassionate and effective healthcare for women. Andrea is actively seeking opportunities through research institutions and nonprofit organizations where she can expand her methodological training, remain engaged with emerging findings, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Her values align with initiatives that prioritize rigorous research and advocacy in women’s health, such as Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research, CAMH Womenmind, and The Period Purse.
