Biography:

 

Sid John is a perinatal epidemiology researcher in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Children’s Hospital Research Institute. His work focuses on enhancing pregnancy and newborn outcomes by improving how they are measured, interpreted, and studied using population data. His research has examined whether birthweight-for-gestational-age centiles predict serious neonatal morbidity and mortality, and has evaluated the clinical performance and population health impact of birthweight-for-gestational-age indices at term gestation. His scholarship also addresses broader conceptual and methodological questions in obstetrics and epidemiology. This includes work on the implications of diagnostic framing in gestational diabetes, the role of database systems and database linkages in transforming epidemiologic research and the Bayesian perspective on early delivery for fetal or maternal compromise.
