Biography:

Dr. Sharon Hou (she/her) is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and a psychologist and investigator at BC Children’s Hospital and the Research Institute. Dr. Hou’s research and clinical interests are centred on the role of culture on the health and well-being of children and families. Knowledge gathered informs the co-creation, delivery, and evaluation of culturally responsive interventions to underrepresented and underserved populations, including immigrant, racialized, and neurodivergent children and families. Dr. Hou’s work is grounded in theoretical paradigms centred on anti-racism, critical intersectional feminism, and decolonization. Furthermore, Dr. Hou works closely with people that bring lived and living experiences in the research process, using patient-oriented and community-engaged approaches to ensure that the lived expertise is accurately and meaningfully reflected in the research. Much of Dr. Hou’s work is shaped by her own immigration experience and growing up with cultural diversity.
