Biography:

Dr. Charlie Waugh joined CHHM in January 2015 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow working with Dr. Alex Scott and other members of his tendon research group on in vivo projects relating to tendon adaptation in response to different mechanical loading stimuli.

Dr. Waugh read Veterinary Sciences at the Royal Veterinary College, London before completing a PhD in musculoskeletal biomechanics at Brunel University in 2011. As a post-doctoral researcher, Dr. Waugh researched the developmental and maturational influences of musculoskeletal biomechanics at Brunel University, London. She joined Queen Mary University, London, in 2011 where she investigated the biological response of healthy and pathological tendons to extracorporeal shockwave therapy.

Charlie’s research interests broadly include the biological and mechanical aspects of musculoskeletal structure and function, particularly in relation to movement performance. Her background has proven advantageous in relation to viewing her research with a holistic approach, and in identifying fundamental questions relating to the mechanisms underpinning normal and pathological musculoskeletal structure and function.
