Manon Ranger
Biography:
Dr. Manon Ranger, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing (UBC), is a nurse scientist at the BC Women’s Health Research Institute and the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She has been investigating the impact of early-stress on brain and developmental outcomes in preterm children for over 10 years. Her distinctive research program promotes interdisciplinary research between Nursing Science and fields such as developmental neuroscience, neurobiology, and biomedical engineering.
Dr. Ranger’s program of research aims to understand the responses to, and effects of, various early-life stressors (e.g. pain and related treatments, maternal separation) on the developing brain. She also investigates and tests methods to lessen the adverse effects of these undesirable events. Finally, she seeks to expand the repertoire of nursing practice by conducting cross-disciplinary translational research that integrates laboratory and clinical studies, so that her work will have a direct impact for improving the health of the most vulnerable infants and their families in Canada and world-wide.
