Biography:

Dr. Jennifer Baxter was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences (with a focus on rural health and social justice) at the University of Western Ontario in 2008, followed by a Medical Degree from Queen’s University in 2012. She moved to BC for her Family Practice Residency in Chilliwack, from which she graduated in 2014. Since that time she has worked in Bella Bella, a remote first nations community off BC’s central coast, as well as in the Fraser Valley and Alberta doing primarily Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics before moving to the Sunshine Coast in the spring of 2016. She has particular interests in marginalized populations, including indigenous populations in Canada and internationally, having participated in public health and medical volunteer projects in Guatemala, the Philippines, and most recently in Peru, where she met her husband!). She and her husband are very excited to have found such a beautiful community where they can balance an active outdoor lifestyle (including running, road cycling, hiking, skiing and kayaking) with her full-service rural family practice, and caring for her patients in the hospital.
