Holly Yager
Holly Yager is a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor and Canadian Certified Counsellor with a specialized focus on reproductive & sexual health. In her Vancouver private practice, Holly provides therapy to individuals and couples for issues related to infertility, assisted conception, third-party reproduction, pregnancy loss, perinatal/postpartum mood concerns, and sexual & pelvic pain.
Holly has over 15 years’ experience as a clinical counsellor in Specialized Women’s Health at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, where she has worked at the Centre for Reproductive Health’s IVF clinic, the Reproductive Mental Health Program, and the Centre for Pelvic Pain & Endometriosis. Holly has also worked at a variety of women’s clinics, including Options for Sexual Health.
Holly has a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC. She is a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association, the Canadian Fertility & Andrology Society, and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. In addition to counselling/psychotherapy, Holly facilitates educational workshops and support groups, presents lectures, and has co-authored publications related to infertility and pelvic pain.
Roanne Preston
Dr. Preston is Professor and Head of the UBC Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
Dr. Preston received her medical degree from the University of Ottawa, where she also completed an internship and residencies in Internal Medicine and Anesthesia. Dr. Preston subsequently completed a fellowship in Obstetrical Anesthesia at the University of Toronto, Women’s College Hospital.
Prior to joining the UBC Faculty of Medicine in 2004, Dr. Preston was an Anesthesiologist, Site Head of the Department of Anesthesia at the General Hospital campus and Director of Obstetric Anesthesia at the Ottawa Hospital. From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Preston served as Head of the Department of Anesthesia at BC Women’s Hospital and Head of the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia in the UBC Department of APT; and from 2008 to 2012 she was Senior Medical Director Acute Perinatal Program BC Women’s. She has also served as President of the Children’s and Women’s Medical Staff Association, and acting VP Medical Affairs for BC Women’s.
Dr. Preston’s research interests focus on obstetric anesthesia. She has presented nationally and internationally on topics in obstetric anesthesia, including optimal labour analgesia, the obstetric airway and patient safety. She currently holds a CIHR-Michael Smith Research Grant on Surgical Quality Outcome Reports. From 2005 – 2014, Dr. Preston was a member of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia Editorial Board. She has been a member of the Perinatal Coordinating Council at Vancouver Coastal Health, the Provincial Perinatal Mortality Committee, and the Cesearean Section Task Force. From 2004 to 2012, she was a member of the Perinatal Services BC Guidelines Committee. She currently sits on the Provincial Surgical Executive Council.
Dr. Preston is an enthusiastic educator and has received the UBC Department of APT Master Teacher Award for BC Women’s Hospital twice and the Teacher of the Year award from the Department of Anesthesia at The Ottawa Hospital. From 2008 to 2013, she was a Royal College Examiner in Anesthesiology.
Alice Virani
Jon Havelock
Dr. Havelock is a Clinical Assistant Professor and a former Subspecialty Residency Program Director, Gynecological Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) Residency Program, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Dr. Havelock is the Chair of the REI Special Interest Group at the Canadian Fertility Andrology Society.
Dr. Havelock graduated from the University of Manitoba with BSc and MD degrees. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alberta, and then a three-year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. His focus is on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and tubal reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Havelock works at Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine which is the primary teaching site for GREI residents.
Vivien Runnels
Vivien Runnels was a Senior Researcher with the Globalization and Health Equity Research Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. She holds a Ph.D. in Population Health (2011) from the University of Ottawa and an Ontario Training Centre Diploma in Health Services and Policy Research (2011). She also has carried out post-doctoral work with the Population Health Improvement Research Network based at the University of Ottawa. Her Master’s degree from City University, London, UK is in Disability Management in Work and Rehabilitation (1999). Prior to her doctoral studies, Vivien was Research and Operations Coordinator for the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services at the University of Ottawa.
Vivien’s current research activities and publications related to globalization and health include a focus on health human resources (health workers) and migration; medical tourism and out of country care; and health in foreign policy (global health diplomacy). She worked extensively with Dr. Ronald Labonté on the Globalization Knowledge Network of the WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health. Her ongoing population health research includes studies concerning sex and gender analysis (with the Sex and Gender Methods Group affiliated to the Campbell and Cochrane Equity Methods Group); youth engagement with the post-secondary sector (Youth Futures) with Caroline Andrew; and governance of community-based research. She has carried out research on youth with disabilities and employment, homelessness, food insecurity, and she was on the planning committee and evaluation team for Discovery University, a university-level educational program for people who are homeless or have low-income. As a vocational rehabilitation professional, she worked with people with developmental disabilities, chronic pain and mental health difficulties. Vivien has been a community volunteer for many years, and presently is a board member of the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities, and Human Rights Internet.
Marette Lee
Dr. Marette Lee is the Provincial Colposcopy Lead for the Cervix Screening Program at BC Cancer, and a Gynecologic Oncologist at the Vancouver General Hospital and BC Cancer. She received her medical degree from the University of Alberta and completed her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency at Queen’s University . She then came to Vancouver in 2009 for her fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology, where she has stayed on to practice. In 2015, she completed her MPH at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research activities relate mainly to colposcopy, cervix screening and lower genital tract HPV.
Amy Metcalfe
Dr. Amy Metcalfe’s research focuses on optimizing the management of chronic disease during pregnancy by: 1) examining the impact of medical management of chronic disease in pregnancy on maternal and fetal health; 2) evaluating the ability of alternative models of prenatal care to improve disease control and obstetrical outcomes; and 3) assessing the risk of long-term disease complications following pregnancy. Underlying this program of research is a focus on validation of existing data sources for use in research and application of novel statistical methods to answer clinically relevant questions.
Gina Ogilvie
Gina Ogilvie, MD MSc FCFP DrPH is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Global Control of HPV related diseases and prevention, and Professor at the University of British Columbia in the School of Population and Public Health. She is also Senior Public Health Scientist at BC Centre for Disease Control and Senior Research Advisor at the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre.
Dr. Ogilvie is currently principal investigator on over $13-million in research grants and she has received funding from PHAC, CIHR, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, Canadian Foundation for Innovation and private foundations including BC Women’s Hospital Foundation among others.
Her research is focused on both the public health and clinical aspects of reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, HPV screening and the HPV vaccine, and her findings have been highly influential in setting and directing health policy both in Canada and globally.
She has published over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts and has provided advice and consultation to national and global institutions, including the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, Public Health Agency of Canada, the World Health Organization and Ministries of Health globally on STI, HIV and HPV vaccine policy and programming.
She speaks widely at international and national research and education conferences, and has supervised medical students, residents, and graduate students throughout her career.
Christine Tyson
Christine Tyson did her PhD in molecular cytogenetics at the Medical Research Council Mammalian Genetics Unit in Oxfordshire, UK. Following this, she completed her training as a clinical cytogeneticist at St Mary’s Hospital, and then worked as a clinical cytogeneticist in the Oncology Cytogenetics Laboratory at the Christie Hospital, in Manchester, UK. She later worked at the Bristol Genetics Laboratory as a clinical cytogeneticist, before moving to Vancouver to take up a research associate position in Dr Rajcan-Separovic’s laboratory in the Child and Family Research Institute at Children’s and Women’s Hospital. After leaving this position to pursue a Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) fellowship in cytogenetics at Children’s and Women’s Hospital, she went on to work as a clinical cytogeneticist at Royal Columbian Hospital. In 2018 she completed her CCMG molecular genetics fellowship and now works as a Clinical Molecular Geneticist and Cytogeneticist in the Division of Genome Diagnostics, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
