We are excited to announce, thanks to the generous support of the BC Women’s Health Foundation, the 2021 Catalyst Grant competition for the advancement of knowledge in women’s and newborn’s health!

A total of seven grants will be awarded at $25,000 each. Please read through the instructions carefully. Like last year, there is a required letter of intent which is due August 31, 2021. 

These pilot grants are an open competition with respect to funding a project in women’s and newborn’s health. One of the seven grants will be dedicated to the support of a biomedical health research project involving investigations in female animals.

Sue Harris Family Practice Research Grant

Call for Applications Deadline August 25, 2021 

This research grant is unique in that it supports NEW Family Practice researchers to complete a pilot project or research project in the domain of women’s (cis and trans inclusive) health. It is ideal for a novice FP researcher or​ a first year FP resident beginning to plan for their research project in second year. The grant amount is up to $2,500 for FP residents and $5,000 for a FP practitioner.  Mentoring through the Women's Health Research Institute is available to assist in application. This research grant aligns with the Resident Scholar Program.

Hire a co-op student this summer

Do you need data analytics or digital health support? The University of Victoria Health Information Science (HIS) program provides specialized training for co-op students who can help you:

  • Build, implement, and maintain databases and websites.
  • Set up and upgrade hardware and software.
  • Conduct usability testing for digital health technologies.
  • Extract, interpret, and report database information.
  • Provide IT training and helpdesk support to clinical staff.
  • Establish service agreements with clients and vendors.
  • And more digital health and technology needs.

You can hire exceptional co-op students with statistics, health care software design, hospital information systems, and database training for the September to December 2021 term. Hiring applications are open until the end of August.

SWPP Bio-Talent Co-op Funding

For funding, you can apply to the Federal government’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) which provides up to 50% of the student’s wages (to a maximum of $5,000) or 70% (to a maximum of $7,000) for students from underrepresented groups working for healthcare or STEM-related projects or organizations.

PHSA Ethics Service Survey

As of April 2021, a total of 462 healthcare workers across BC have answered the PHSA’s Ethics Service survey aiming to understand the ethical challenges faced by health professionals throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. This survey and preliminary results have been presented and will continue to be presented at several leadership meetings and scientific conferences to contribute to ongoing conversations about pandemic response planning.
