Publication Alert!
Dr. Stephanie Fisher, Dr. Kimberly Stewart, and Dr. Arianne Albert - our Senior Biostatistician - have been published in the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care!
"Retained products of conception (RPOC) refers to pregnancy tissue that remains in the uterus following a miscarriage or termination. Symptoms include heavy bleeding, fever, infection, and pain and lack of treatment can result in loss of fertility. Women are often managed for RPOC using dilatation and curettage (D&C), which is a surgical procedure that has a risk of subsequent complications. We retrospectively investigated if medical management of RPOC using misoprostol was effective in resolving RPOC in women who attended the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic (EPAC) at BC Women's. We found that 65% of the women who chose to manage RPOC with misoprostol did not require further surgery to resolve their RPOC. The success rate depended on the initial management of the miscarriage."
