Announcing the results of the 2020 Women's Health Research Institute Catalyst Grant Competition
The Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI) is very pleased to congratulate the recipients of the 2020 Women’s Health Research Institute Catalyst Grants. This competition was funded thanks to the dedicated support of the BC Women’s Health Foundation. This grant competition provides support for pilot studies in women’s and newborn’s health, which aim to generate preliminary data; test new approaches, methodologies or tools; bring new teams together; and/or support new research in women’s and newborn’s health from established researchers. This year Dr. Kristin Campbell, Dr. Travis Hodges, and Dr. Jerilynn Prior received grants in the Academic Researcher stream, while Dr. Nichole Fairbrother, Dr. Mohamed Bedaiway (with Co-Principal Investigator Dr. KS Joseph), and Dr. Brigid Dineley received grants in the Clinician-Investigator stream.
Congratulations, everyone, and stay tuned for our official announcement! To learn more about the recipients, click their names.

How has COVID-19 impacted women's health trainees in BC?
Complimenting last month's BC Women's Hospital Rounds presentation, Dr. Angela Kaida recently hosted an episode of our podcast in conversation with graduate students Chenoa Cassidy-Matthews, Kalysha Closson, Kristina Jenei, Bethel Lulie, and Punit Virk.
The episode explores impacts to education, mental health and wellbeing, and other issues faced by students during the COVID-19 pandemic through their voices and reinforced by results from our recent survey.

REACH BC: Introduction + Training Opportunity
REACH BC is a new online platform that connects the public and patients with research opportunities related to their health conditions and/or interests, to ultimately advance health care and improve health outcomes in British Columbia. Researchers: Reach the volunteers you need with the over 1400 people registered as REACH BC Volunteers, searching for health research opportunities in BC. REACH BC is free and easy to use: - Sign up for a Researcher account at REACH BC
- Submit your active research project to the public directory
- Find volunteers that are matched using the eligibility criteria
- Follow up with interested volunteers
We invite the academic research community to post their health research opportunities related to COVID-19 or other types of research that can be done remotely via telephone or online. In order to facilitate this further, we are pleased to offer a special REACH BC training opportunity to WHRI Staff and Members, from Stefanie Cheah, REACH BC Project Manager. Training will be offered virtually on Wednesday November 18th from 8:30 – 9:30 AM. Please email Nicole.Prestley@cw.bc.ca if you would like to register for the training. For more information you can visit: https://www.reachbc.ca/researchers
